experience
Adjunct Professor, University of Pittsburgh
2018 - present
At Pitt I teach Seminar in Composition (ENG101: Comp. 1) and Workshop in Composition (ESL course taken prior to Composition I). In the Seminar course we focus on developing critical thinking, reading, and writing. We write four reader response essays based on difficult articles and many taboo topics. Students complete two journal responses per reading, and also participate in many guided workshops (class discussions) on the readings. There are two portfolios submitted (midterm and final). In the Workshop class we focus on practice writing also based on specific readings. We complete four essays during the semester and weekly oral reports on real world issues each week. Grammar is taught in context and any issues are addressed with mini-lessons.
Adjunct Professor, Allegheny Community College
2018-present
At CCAC I have taught ENG101 (Comp. 1), ENG202 (Comp. 2) and Developmental reading & Writing. Comp. 1 and Developmental both focus on writing with a slightly slower pace in the lower level course. Comp. 2 is a research-based course which includes a more developed research essay.
Adjunct Professor, La Roche University
2017 - 2019
At La Roche I taught ESL Speaking and Listening and ENG101 (Comp 1). The ESL courses were geared to raise proficiency in speaking and listening. ENG101 was focused on writing and also submitted portfolios instead of exams.
